Somerset is a Privately Owned Company with
over 20 Years Growth in the Hardwood Industry. We are
experts in the wood business, building a strong reputation for
manufacturing quality Appalachian lumber and unfinished
flooring for many years prior to entering into the manufacture
of prefinished flooring. From the outset, we made a major
commitment to produce the finest quality prefinished
flooring—from our investment in machinery, materials, and
processes, to the recruiting and hiring of skilled employees.
As demand for our prefinished flooring has seen significant
growth, we have expanded to multiple manufacturing facilities
in Somerset, Burnside, and Munfordville, Kentucky.
Strategically Positioned to Manufacture the Finest Flooring
Somerset manufactures flooring
from the finest natural hardwood resource in
America—Appalachian hardwood. With corporate headquarters in
Somerset, Kentucky, and manufacturing facilities in central
Kentucky, the heart of the Appalachian timberlands, our
company is strategically positioned to give you the finest
quality.
Vertically
Integrated—from the Forest to the Finished Product
Somerset processes millions of
board feet of lumber a year. Throughout our operations,
including our own lumber manufacturing, and drying, milling,
and finishing of hardwood flooring, we maintain control over
the entire process. This is an important reason we are able to
consistently produce quality products that we can be proud of
and you can be confident in.
State-of-the-Art Facilities and Quality People
To achieve the uncompromising high
quality standards that we make mandatory for our flooring, we
continually invest in the most modern manufacturing equipment,
paved lumberyards, computer-controlled dry kilns,
state-of-the-art finishing lines, and dedicated employees. We
believe that it’s our skilled and dedicated employees that
ultimately make the difference in our products, service, and
reputation.
Wood is an
Environmentally Sound Choice
Somerset flooring is an
environmentally sound choice because trees are a renewable and
sustainable resource. You can trust that maintaining healthy
and productive forests are our priority—not only are they
essential to the world where our children are growing up, but
our jobs, and the livelihood of hundreds of Somerset employees
and their families depends on our forests. We support the
Sustainable Forestry Initiative, requiring us to be
responsible stewards of our managed timberlands by meeting
independently established and monitored objectives on an
ongoing basis. In fact, our commitment to this initiative is
such a priority, that we are one of only a few major
manufacturers to have a full-time forestry staff.
Somerset is one of North
America’s Largest Suppliers of Kiln-Dried Appalachian
Hardwoods. The quality
Appalachian lumber from which we manufacture Somerset flooring
is supplied by our Somerset Wood Products division. The
majority of the Appalachian timber processed at Somerset Wood
Products comes from nearly 120 sawmill suppliers within a
150-mile radius of our plants. Our “waste-not" philosophy and
commitment to our natural resources starts here, where even
the bark of the tree is used for mulch—in fact the entire tree
is put to use throughout our manufacturing processes.
We equip our plants with the most
advanced machinery, much of which is built by our own
machinists. This ensures that stringent quality control
standards are met throughout every step of the manufacturing
process.
At Somerset, all lumber is graded
before and after kiln-drying by graders that are NHLA
Certified. We strive to consistently achieve lumber that is
on-grade.
Kiln-dried lumber is processed by
our flooring division or packed or bundled in units and
prepared for domestic and export shipment.
Somerset's Color Collection Strip is solid 3/4" thick
flooring crafted from Appalachian oak, which is renowned for
its incomparable beauty. Solid prefinished flooring should
last the lifetime of your home. It can be sanded and
refinished if needed—or if your decorating tastes change and
you simply want to change the color.
INSTALLS ON OR ABOVE GRADE
Solid hardwood flooring is suitable for
installation on or above grade (ground level) only. Somerset
guarantees the structural stability of solid flooring for a
lifetime.
